Do straight lines look wavy?
A guided Amsler grid check for each eye. Notice distortion, blurred lines or missing areas.
Set up before you begin
- Wear the glasses you normally use for reading. Use good, even lighting and avoid screen glare.
- Use a ruler to adjust the line below until it measures exactly 5 cm. The grid will then measure 10 cm square. Do not rely on the screen’s apparent size.
- Keep your eyes approximately 35 cm (14 inches) from the grid. Keep the same distance for each eye.
- Cover the left eye without pressing on it. Keep looking at the centre dot with the right eye. Notice the surrounding lines without moving your gaze around the grid.
- Then cover the right eye and repeat with the left eye.
If the whole calibrated grid does not fit, use a larger screen or print it. Recheck the line after zooming, rotating or resizing your screen.
Print at actual size / 100%, without “fit to page”. Measure the grid: it must be 10 cm square. A 5 cm verification line appears above. If the size is wrong, do not use this printout for the check.
